The Figure Skating Club at IU provides students the chance to skate and enjoy the sport while representing IU. Currently there are two components to our club: recreational and intercollegiate competition team. Recreational skaters are able to skate on our weekly club ice and participate in our Winter and Spring shows whether they have been skating their whole life or are taking their first steps on the ice now. Intercollegiate competition team members travel to three intercollegiate competitions annually. These competitors have the option of competing in freestyle, dance and team maneuver events.
Our practices are what you make them, meaning they can be as active or as leisurely as you want them to be. The team has a lot of fun together on and off the ice, but practice gets serious when a competition or ice show is coming up!

History of the Team
The Figure Skating Club at IU was started in 2003 by IU student Katie Laughner. Growing up a competitive figure skater she wanted to be able to continue skating in college. With no club at IU Katie took it upon herself to build the club from scratch and help it become the national competitor that it is today.
During the 2003-2004 season, IU competed in its first freestyle competitions. In the past six years the freestyle team has grown to be one of the best in the Midwest. The IU freestyle team has been Midwest champions multiple times and in 2007-2008 earned the silver medal at the Intercollegiate National Championships in Chelsea, MI.
Synchronized Skating was brought to Indiana University by team member Brittany DiSalvo. IU first competed in synchro during the 2005-2006 season under the direction of Brittany, and since then has competed in both Midwest and National competitions, and quickly became one of the fastest growing teams in the country.
IU Figure Skating would not be the same without the dedication of these two ladies. Thank you Katie and Brittany for your heart and dedication to the the sport, current and future team members will forever thank you!
